Paula Cole was one of the many female singer/songwriters wHO rose to prominence in the mid-'90s in the awake of alternative's commercial find. Drawing heavily from the gossamer, pretty sound of Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos, Cole created songs that relied equally on languid melodies and poetic, introverted lyrics.


Kail was born and embossed in Rockport, MA, the daughter of an amateur instrumentalist and a visual artist. Following her high gradation, she went to the Berklee College of Music to study jazz vocalizing and improvisation. After she graduated from Berklee, Cole became a professional musician in order to make a living; she continued to write original material on the side.


Her first base crowing develop arrived when Peter Gabriel invited her to perform on his 1992-1993 world circuit. Shortly afterwards, she gestural to Imago Records, where she released her debut album, Precursor, in 1994. Within a year of the album's press release, Imago went kO'd of business organization, which prevented the record from getting exposure on tuner and in the beseech. In 1995, she gestural to Warner Brothers, world Health Organization reissued Herald in the fall of that year. Cole returned with her irregular album, This Fire, in October of 1996. The album and its attendant single, "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?," became word of mouth hits, break through into the mainstream in the spring of 1997. That summer, Cole participated in the first gear Lilith Fair, a travelling festival McLachlan designed to case female artists. Cole was one of the performers to pick up a significant boost of profile from the tour, and was the content of many articles in the mainstream press.


In 1998, Cole north Korean won the Grammy for Best New Artist, despite the fact that she released her debut album in 1994 and consequently was technically ineligible. That same class she scored with the single "I Don't Want to Wait," popularized as the base to the television hit Dawson's Creek. Her much-anticipated third base album, Amon, followed in 1999. Eight days passed in front she returned with the single "14" and a new album, Bravery, in 2007.
