During the '70s, when Moraz reached his choice as an creative person, the keyboard was still a new and complex instrument. Technology was tranquil evolving in the age in front the personal computer. For this reason, Moraz's trailblazing keyboard work startled his audience. He skillful a new and exciting sound that was forrader of its clock time, undischarged a piece to the era's prog john Rock legal. However, that prog rock effectual shortly helpless its freshness as the '70s became the '80s, and Moraz had to adjust to the times on his '80s solo albums. At the same time he set up security department in the Moody Blues, a fabled band whose ranks he united for a few albums.

Born in Morgues, Switzerland, Moraz dog-tired his youth perusing medicine at hunky-dory European schools as well as classical studies in Latin and ancient Greek after on. His studies cumlimanted with his sentence played out as a student of Nadia Boulanger, a highly regarded teacher. His first base gustation of major artistic acknowledgement came when he was awarded Best Soloist at the Jazz Festival of Zurich in 1963 for his piano playing. As a resultant role of his realisation, Moraz began playacting as the opening act for major nothingness artists. By the late '60s, he was mounting tours of his possess across Europe; in 1965, he came for the first base time to America; and in 1966 and 1967, he was playacting in such far-off locales as Africa and the Middle East.

Moraz and so began operative in grouping settings after his success as a solo performer. He formed Mainhorse with Jean Restori in 1968, a pretty radical grouping that toured throughout Europe into the early '70s. The group released an eponymic record album on Polydor in front Moraz stirred to London and started another radical, Refugee, with Lee Jackson and Brian Davidson. It wasn't long, however, until Moraz was onto something newfangled, his biggest chance yet. In August 1974, Yes invited him to unite them as the group's keyboardist and Moraz recognized. The group had suit quite challenging by this point and began working on what would become one of their most historied albums, Relayer, an album that Yes toured behindhand for three old age.

After so often touring, Yes distinct to accept a break so the mathematical group members could explore solo projects. Moraz worked with 16 Brazilian percussionists in accession to a normal bass/guitar/drums ring, creating his first solo record album, Story of I (1976), which would become perchance his to the highest degree well-known. Atlantic released the album and it impressed many, winning Moraz a great deal wonderment. He released several followup albums for different labels, the first of which, Out in the Sun (1977), continued to explore his pastime in Brazilian music.

Following the success of Out in the Sun, the Moody Blues invited him to unite the band on its reality tour for the counter record album Octave. Following the tour, Moraz helped the band craftsmanship Long Distance Voyager, a vast winner for the ring. While with the Moody Blues, he continued transcription solo albums. Future Memories I (1979) and Future Memories II (1982) were quite revolutionary for their time and were elect to represent Switzerland at the Montreux Golden Rose Festival. His other early-'80s workings were equally as daring, though non constantly pop. By 1991, Moraz had distinct to portion ways with the Moody Blues and continued to condense on his long-running solo life history.

Harassment suit against radio host Wendy Williams

NEW YORK —

A sexual harassment lawsuit against radio personality Wendy Williams claims her husband dominated her workplace, physically abused her and repeatedly propositioned an employee.

The lawsuit, brought by talent booker and publicist Nicole Spence, also names Kevin Hunter, who is the disc jockey's husband and manager, and Inner City Broadcast Corp., which is the DJ's boss. Williams and Hunter have denied the allegations.

Williams' radio show, "The Wendy Williams Experience," is featured in a VH1 cable TV show of the same name and is syndicated on radio stations around the country.

Spence's lawsuit, filed Wednesday in federal court in Manhattan, claims Hunter screamed and cursed at Spence while she worked on "The Wendy Williams Experience" and repeatedly propositioned her, calling her late at night to tell her about his sexual fantasies.

When Spence refused his advances, the lawsuit says, the situation worsened and his sexual comments took on a more threatening tone.

Spence, who sometimes appeared on the air with Williams, claims she felt unsafe at the office after seeing Hunter physically and verbally abuse his wife.

In one instance, the lawsuit claims, he stormed into an office meeting, "pinning (his wife) against the wall with his hand around her neck, choking her while repeatedly pounding his fist into the wall directly by her head." The attack, Spence claims, was apparently prompted by Williams' failure to quit smoking.

The lawsuit, which seeks more than $5 million, claims the broadcasting company failed to respond to Spence's repeated complaints and that the defendants have illegally retaliated against her.

"We will vindicate her rights," lawyer Ken Thompson said of Spence, who continues to work on the show.

When Spence's claims first surfaced, Williams said "her allegations are totally false." Her husband said the claims were "so far from the truth. It's insane."

A phone message left with a lawyer for Inner City Broadcast seeking comment was not immediately returned Wednesday. An e-mail sent to Williams and her husband through the show's Web site also went unreturned.

Stop picking on me, Denise tells Charlie

Former Bond girl Denise Richards - currently starring in a reality television series about her chaotic life - has one key thing to say to ex-husband Charlie Sheen now that he has remarried: stop picking on me.

Richards, 37, divorced Sheen in 2006, and her break-up from the star of TV's Two and Half Men, became instant fodder for celebrity magazines.

She hopes to "set the record straight" about her life on her reality program, Denise Richards: It's Complicated, on cable TV network E!.

"He loves to trash me in the press and discredit me and has tried to sabotage my (new) show. I can't change that, so I just keep living my life," said Richards.

"I hope that now that he's married, he can move forward and be civil."

During their divorce, the press seized on Richards' claims of Sheen's domestic abuse, penchants for prostitutes and porn, made public in court documents.

The actor's career weathered the storm and about two weeks ago, he married a third time.

Richards' career and reputation, however, have been overshadowed by what she sees as negative press, which included stories about her former romance with Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, ex-husband of her one-time friend Heather Locklear.

So in late May Richards, whose career blossomed in the 1990s on TV and in movies such as Starship Troopers and Bond flick The World is Not Enough, joined a growing list of celebrities documenting their lives on reality TV.

"I've gotten sick of not saying anything for three years. I wanted it (the show) to be real. Hopefully people can better understand my honesty and that I'm relatable as a single mom," said Richards.

CELEBRITY MOM

But Richards is no ordinary mum. She is a celebrity dealing with the aftermath of a Hollywood divorce, romances splattered all over gossip pages and the ever-present paparazzi.

In one episode, she curses out a tabloid journalist after visiting the reporter in her office, and Sheen hurled more daggers at her this month in reports quoting him as saying his marriage to Richards was a "con". She was not surprised.

"It's expected with Charlie. I've been dealing with him for a long time and he is who he is." said Richards, who in one episode tries to have her name changed on her drivers' license.

In the past week, celebrity website TMZ also reported the two had clashed over their children's medical care, with Sheen reportedly objecting to Richards having the girls immunized.

Sheen's spokesman said the actor had no comment, and noted that, among other things, "this is an ugly divorce."

The long-haired, well-toned Richards, who once appeared in Playboy magazine, candidly describes her program as a "guilty pleasure" for those who watch it.

It chronicles a cozy and hectic life with her two daughters - Sam, 4, and Lola, 3, - her recently widowed dad and a menagerie of pets. Richards says her mother, who recently died of cancer, had urged her to do the reality show.

"I've had fun working with my family and friends at home and the feedback has been fantastic," said Richards, who often swears colorfully on the show outside her daughters' earshot.

In one episode, she agrees to a dare by her father to relinquish a pair of designer shoes for every time she curses.

She also ponders an invitation to pose again for Playboy, but rules it out when her best friend reminds her she is trying to change her image.

When asked how she'd advise her daughters if they were asked as adults to pose for the men's magazine, she was taken aback.

"I don't even want to think about them being that old! I am enjoying them being three and four years-old. As for myself, I'd never say never," she said.

Le Pacte pacts with Corniche Pics

Corniche co-producing "Divine Intervention"

CANNES -- Jean Labadie's start-up distribution and sales venture Le Pacte is teaming up with London-based Hani Farsi's Corniche Pictures, with Corniche taking an undisclosed capital stake in Le Pacte, described as "minority but significant."

"Corniche Pictures, a member of Corniche Group, subscribes to a raise of capital in Le Pacte, which will allow Le Pacte to increase its development in distribution, co-production and international sales," the company said.

Corniche is currently co-producing "Divine Intervention," the new film by Palestinian director Elia Suleiman.

Labadie set up Le Pacte in November, 2007, after being ousted from Bac Films, the company he founded and built into one of France's most respected independent distributors, having released more Palme d'Or winning films than just about any other French distributor, including last year's winner.

He was pushed out by Roch Lener, head of Gallic animation studio Millimages, which took a majority stake in Bac in 2004 when the company hit financial troubles.

In parallel to his association with Corniche, Labadie said he has sold his remaining 10% stake in Bac, severing all ties with his former company.

For its Festival de Cannes debut, Le Pacte has three films in the official selection. The company recently picked up French rights to Ari Folman's In Competition title "Waltz With Bashir" and also has Italian entry "Gomorra" by Matteo Garrone. Le Pacte also is handling international sales on Amat Escalante's "Los Bastardos," which airs in Un Certain Regard.

Le Pacte expects to release about a dozen films annually. The company's distribution lineup includes Jim Jarmusch's "The Limits of Control," Francois Ozon's "Ricky" and "La Belle Personne" by Christophe Honore.

"We share the same goal with Hani Farsi to create a talent-friendly home for filmmakers from all over the world. This alliance will allow Le Pacte to support directors' projects in the best possible conditions," Labadie said.

The partnership is also intended to constitute a substantial step in Corniche's plans to increase its exposure to the movie industry and seek other alliances with like-minded independent distributors and producers.

Bing Crosby was, without doubt, the nigh democratic and influential media star of the first half of the 20th century. The undisputed best-selling artist until considerably into the rock'n'roll era (with over half a 1000000000 records in circulation), the most popular wireless star of all time, and the biggest box office reap of the forties, Crosby dominated the amusement world from the Depression until the mid-'50s, and proved just now as influential as he was popular. Unlike the many vocal artists earlier him, Crosby grew up with radio receiver, and his intimate bedside manner was a style absolutely suited to accentuate the strengths of a medium transmitted immediately into the home. He was too helped by the rising microphone technology: scientists had perfected the electrically amplified recording process scant months earlier Crosby debuted on phonograph record, and in direct contrast to in the first place vocalists, world Health Organization were forced to strain their voices into the amphetamine register to draw an impression on mechanically recorded tracks, Crosby's warm, manful baritone crooned contentedly without a thought of excess.

Not to be forgotten in charting Bing Crosby's influence is the music itself. His song knowledge and sense of laid-back swing was erudite from early nothingness music, far less stately than the European-influenced classical and popular music victimized for inspiration by the vocalists of the 1910s and '20s. Jazz was by no means his main concentration, though, peculiarly subsequently the thirties; Crosby rather blended contemporaneous pop hits with the c. H. Best songs from a wide kitchen range of material (now and then recording theme-oriented songs written by non-specialists as well, such as Cole Porter's notoriously un-Western "Don't Fence Me In"). His wide repertoire covered picture tunes, photographic film music, land & western songs, patriotic standards, religious hymns, vacation favorites, and heathen ballads (most notably Irish and Hawaiian). The width of material wasn't sinister to audiences because Crosby put his have indelible stamp on each song he recorded, appealing to many different audiences while still non endangering his possess fan base. Bing Crosby was among the first to actually show songs, qualification them his have by interpretation the lyrics and accenting words or phrases to emphasise what he idea best.

His influence and grandness in footing of vocal ability and cognition of American popular music are huge, simply what made Bing Crosby more than anything else was his part -- whether it was an artificial creation or something perfectly natural to his have personality. Crosby delineated the American everyman -- strong and exacting to a point yet easy and affable, tolerant of other viewpoints simply quick to hold God and the American means -- during the hard times of the Depression and World War II, when Americans most needful a symbol of what their area was all about.

Bing Crosby was natural Harry Lillis Crosby in Tacoma, WA, on May 3, 1903. (Lotto was a childhood cognomen from one of his favorite amusing strips.) The quartern of sevener children in a poverty line kinsperson wHO loved to sing, he was briefly sent to vocal lessons early on by his mother, until he grew hackneyed of the grooming. An early adorer of Al Jolson, Crosby saw his hero perform in 1917. Crosby american ginseng in a highschool jazz band, and when he began attending nearby Gonzaga College (he had adult up practically in the midsection of the campus), he consistent a drum fix through the mail and expert on the fructify. Introduced to a local bandleader named Al Rinker, he was invited to join Rinker's group, the Musicaladers, tattle and playing drums with the group throughout college.

Though the Musicaladers bust up shortly afterwards his graduation in 1925, Bing Crosby was ready to stick by with the music patronage. Crosby had made quite a bit of money during the band's calling, and he and Rinker -- world Health Organization was the brother of Mildred Bailey -- were confident they could make it in California. They jammed up their holding and headed out for Los Angeles, finding dependable money working in music hall until they were hired by Paul Whiteman, leader of the most popular jazz lot in the state (and known as the "King of Jazz" in an earned run average when dim pioneers were mostly unheeded since they were unmerchantable). For a few songs during Whiteman's shows, Rinker and Crosby american ginseng as the Rhythm Boys with Harry Barris (a pianist, transcriber, vocal personal effects creative person, and songster by and by famous for "I Surrender Dear" and "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams"). With their clever songwriting and stage routines, the threesome before long became one of the Paul Whiteman Orchestra's virtually popular attractions, and Crosby took a vocal on one of Whiteman's biggest hits of 1927-1928, "Ol' Man River." Besides appearance on criminal record with Whiteman's orchestra, the Rhythm Boys likewise recorded on their have, though an chance for Crosby to enlarge his share in the 1930 picture King of Jazz with a solo song went unrealized, as he sat in the click for a drunk-driving altercation.

When Whiteman once more hit the road in 1930, the Rhythm Boys stayed behind on the West Coast. After Crosby hired his self-aggrandising brother Everett as a director, he began recording systematically as a solo pretend with Brunswick Records in early 1931, and by year's goal had chalked up several of the year's biggest hits, including "Out of Nowhere," "Just One More Chance," "I Found a Million-Dollar Baby," and "At Your Command." He appeared in leash films that class, and in September began a popular CBS radio series. Its success was similarly unprecedented; in less than a year, the present was among the nation's most pop and earned Crosby a starring role in 1932's The Big Broadcast, which brought radio stars like Burns & Allen to the screen. By the center of the decade, Crosby was among the peak ten-spot most popular film stars. His musical achiever had, if anything, gained momentum during the same metre, producing some of the biggest hits of 1932-1934: "Please," "Crony, Can You Spare a Dime?," "You're Getting to Be a Habit With Me," "Small Dutch Mill," "Honey in Bloom," and "June in January."

"June in January," itself the biggest reach at that point in Crosby's young career, signaled a wrick in his vocation. Brunswick administrator Jack Kapp had just struck out on his possess with an American underling of the British Decca Records, and Crosby was lured all over with the promise of higher royalty rates. Though his initial releases on Decca were recordings from his films of the year -- "June in January" was taken from Here Is My Heart -- Crosby began stretching kO'd with religious corporeal (such as "Silent Night, Holy Night," which became one of his biggest sellers, estimated at up to ten one thousand thousand). Late in 1935, he sign-language a abridge for a wireless render with NBC called Kraft paper Music Hall, an association that lasted into the mid-'40s. After his first musical director, Jimmy Dorsey, left wing, Crosby's songster friend Johnny Burke recommended John Scott Trotter (antecedently with the Hal Kemp Orchestra) as a replacement. Trotter speedily cinched the task when his arrangements for the 1936 film Pennies from Heaven produced the biggest hit of the year in its title song. (He would continue as Bing's orchestra adapter and bandleader into the mid-'50s.)

Subsequently the biggest hit of 1936, Bing Crosby followed up with -- what else? -- the biggest of 1937, simply months later. "Sweet Leilani," from the likewise Hawaiian cinema Waikiki Wedding, showed Bing the guidance his career could get hold of over the track of the 1940s and '50s. Though he had recorded several cowherd songs sooner in the 1930s as well as the episodic song of divine guidance, Crosby began covering everything under the sun, the popular hits of every genre of contemporary music. These weren't castoffs, either; many of his 1940s nation & western covers were hits, such as "Newfangled San Antonio Rose," "You Are My Sunshine," "Rich in the Heart of Texas," "Pistol-Packin' Mama," "San Fernando Valley," and "Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy."

With the coming of American involvement in World War II, Bing Crosby entered the tip of his career. Arriving in 1940 was the first of his popular "Road" movies with one-time quaker Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour, along with trey of the biggest hits of the year ("Sierra Sue," "Trade Winds," "Only Forever"). Crosby and Hope had first met in 1932, when the deuce both performed at the Capitol Theater in New York. They reunited later in the '30s to undetermined a track, and subsequently reprising some onetime vaudeville routines, a Paramount Pictures producer distinct to ascertain a vehicle for the mate and came up with The Road to Singapore.

More popular succeeder followed in 1941 with the introduction of the biggest hit of Papa Bing's life history, "White Christmas." Written by Irving Berlin for 1942's Holiday Inn (a cinema that featured a Berlin song for each major vacation of the year), the single was debuted on Bing's radiocommunication show on Christmas Day, 1941. Recorded the following May and released in October, "Patrick White Christmas" stayed at number one for the rest of 1942. Reissued near Christmas for each of the next 20 age, it became the best-selling single of all fourth dimension, with totals of all over 30 jillion copies. It was a favourite for soldiers on the several USO tours Crosby tended to during the war age, as was another holiday vocal, "I'll Be Home for Christmas." Crosby's pop success continued subsequently the remainder of the warfare, and he remained the top box office draw until 1948 (his fifth consecutive twelvemonth at number one).

As with all the jazz-oriented stars of the first half of the 20th one C, Crosby's chart popularity was patently affected by the uprise of rock & roll in the mid-'50s. Though 1948's "Right away Is the Hour" proved his last number one hit, the deficiency of graph success proven to be a blessing: Crosby right away had the time to concentrate on album-oriented projects and collaborations with other vocalists and constitute bands, unquestionably a more enjoyable venture than singing pop hits of the clarence Shepard Day Jr. on his receiving set show, ad nauseam. Inspired by the '50s adult-oriented album concepts of Frank Sinatra (world Health Organization had no doubt been elysian by Bing in no modest way), Crosby began to record his most well-received records in ages, as Bing Sings Whilst Bregman Swings (1956) and Bing With a Beat (1957) returned him to the hot wind he had loved and performed back in the 1930s. His recording and movie schedule began to slow in the 1960s, though he recorded several LPs for United Artists during the mid-'70s (one with Fred Astaire) and returned to active performance during 1976-1977. While golfing in Spain on October 14, 1977, Bing Crosby collapsed and died of a affection approach.

Jay-Z hits back at Noel Gallagher in Glasto row

Jay-Z has hit back at Oasis mainman Noel Gallagher's recent comments that hip-hop is "not suitable" for the Glastonbury festival, which the rapper is set to headline.

Noel Gallagher said Jay-Z and hip-hop was wrong for Glastonbury last month, adding, "I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance".

The rapper has hit back at the singer/guitarist by backing up his genre, and calling for respect between those who make different types of music.

According to The Sun Jay-Z said: "We don't play guitars, Noel, but hip-hop has put in its work like any other form of music. This headline show is just a natural progression. Rap music is still evolving.

"From Afrika Bambaataa DJ-ing in the Bronx and Run DMC going platinum, to Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince winning the first rap Grammy, I'm just next in the line.

"We have to respect each others' genre of music and move forward."

Jay-Z went on to say that he was looking forward to his headline slot at Glastonbury on June 28, despite the controversy surrounding it. "I've never ever had a show that's caused this much of a stir so I'm really looking forward to it," he said.

"I've never been involved in anything this controversial," he added. "What's the big deal about doing a show? I guess it's heritage and people hold that dear to their heart and see it one way but that's how the world is."

Daniel Day Lewis - Day-lewis In Talks For Musical Role

DANIEL DAY-LEWIS is in talks to replace fellow 2008 Oscar-winner JAVIER BARDEM in a new movie version of Broadway musical NINE.

Best Supporting Actor-winner Bardem pulled out of the Rob Marshall-directed movie earlier this month (May08), complaining he is exhausted after a busy 2007.

Producers have now set their sights on Day-Lewis - who recently won the Best Actor Academy Award for a spectacular performance in There Will Be Blood.

If he accepts, the Englishman will play Guido Contini, a director struggling to juggle the many women in his life - who will be played by Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench.

Convincing the intensely private star to act again so soon after last year's There Will Be Blood would be a major coup; he famously leaves long gaps between projects, and has only made three pictures in the last ten years.

A spokesperson for the movie has dampened speculation by telling Variety, "Any of the names being thrown around is pure conjecture, and when we're ready to make an announcement, we'll let you know."
